Before introduction of the Sparrow 22, rimfire suppressors were either sealed (i.e., they did not come apart for maintenance), or they had to regularly be factory-cleaned to avoid defect/seizure. By unveiling their patented Multi-Part Containment (MPC) sleeve into the design, SilencerCo enabled the Sparrow to easily be disassembled by hand, thus improving cleaning and overall efficiency.

Although redefining maintenance expectations industry-wide, the Sparrow 22 also became branded for having a noticeable first round pop (FRP). As a result, many suppressor manufacturers (including SilencerCo) began replicating the best design concepts from the Sparrow 22 into other models to improve overall performance.
